    Hamilton School News

    ★NEW Last Call for Yearbooks!

    If your student is not on the list to receive a yearbook (lists are posted in the Commons), we still have a limited number of extra books to sell.  Your student can pick up a late yearbook order form in the office and turn it in at the front office with a payment (check or cash) of $35.  Scholarships are also available, please contact your student’s counselor if your family would like to request one.  Books will be distributed in the last week of school.

    ★Updated  Hamilton Drama Shows

    Wed., June 13, 2018  HIMS Student Film Fest  Come watch the best of this year’s Advanced Drama filmmaking.  Also included will be the best films from the Intro to Drama classes. Show runs from 6:30pm-8:00pm in the HIMS Commons.  Admission is FREE.

    ★NEW Hawks Ultimate Club - Spring League  

    Congratulations to ALL 5 of the Spring Hawks Ultimate teams. Each team had an excellent season, we were competitive in all divisions. A special congrats to the 8th grade A team that achieved a 1st place in overall standings as well as 1st place in the team spirit score and 1st place in the coaching spirit score. Yay Hawks!

    Music News

    ★ Updated Become a FOMAHI Volunteer in 2018-2019

    Are you still thinking of being a part of FOMAHI, but too afraid to step up?  Now is the time!  We are still looking for one volunteer Board position for next year.  FOMAHI is an important part of Hamilton Music, and believe it or not, is a lot of fun as well.

    Open Positions

    • Vice President for Concert Operations:  Helps coordinate concerts operations for band/choir/orchestra including delegating bake sale coordinators, audio/visual recordings, and concert programs.  Attends monthly board meetings.  Not a lot of time commitment.

      Band and Orchestra wins at Silverwood! 

      Congratulations to the Hamilton orchestras and band for their award winning performances at the Silverwood Music in the Parks Festival.  Hamilton Chamber Orchestra won first place in their division and first overall.  Hamilton Senior Orchestra took Second Place in their division.  Hamilton Senior Band also took first place in it's division and names best overall Jr High/Middle School concert band!

      A true testament to the power of music at Hamilton and to the amazing students, directors, and all the people who support them.


      ★ NEW Orchestra Concert June 12th at Jane Addams Middle School

      The last orchestra concert of the year is June 12th, 7 pm, at Jane Addams Middle School (11051 34 Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98125).  NOT AT HAMILTON!

      1.  Concert volunteers:  Volunteers are crucial to help the concert run smoothly.  You can volunteer and still see your student perform.  Please consider and sign up here  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040549aea62a1-hims2.

      2.  Bake Sale:  We will be having our usual Bake Sale and Banh Mi sandwhich sale, so come with cash and an appetitie.  Bakers, this is your last chance of the year, don't let us down.  Sign up to donate bake goods here.
      Bake sales are important source of funding for your student performers and helps subsidize trips, pay for instruction, etc. 

       


      ★ NEW Band Concert June 14th Hamilton Gym

      1. Need Parent Volunteers for Thursday, June 14th "End of Year" Band Concert!

      FOMAHI concert crew & band directors need parent helpers the night of the June 14th.  We need help with set-up, door ushering and organizing performers beforehand.  Please consider donating an hour of your time so students and the instructors can focus on the performance that night!

      2. FINAL BAND CONCERT - Thursday, June 14th in the Hamilton Gym

      The "End of the Year" Concert showcasing the Hamilton Bands will be June 14th at 7 pm in the Hamilton Gym.  Due to space limitations, the concert will be held in two sessions. Musicians should arrive 30 minutes prior to their session.  Visit the Bake Sale (with Banh Mi Sandwiches) in the Commons before or after the performances and celebrate an awesome year of music.

      7:00-7:45 pm:   Beginning & Intermediate Band Performances
      8:00-8:45 pm:  Junior & Senior Band Performances

      3. Banh Mi Sandwiches and Bake Sale at the Band Concert - NEED BAKED GOODS AND VOLUNTEERS

      The Bake Sale fundraising benefits our student performers and helps to keep the music program strong.  Please sign up to bring baked goods or volunteer at the table when your student isn't performing.

      Thank you to all the trip organizers and chaperones on our many Hamilton Music trips this year.  We couldn't have our students participate and bring home trophies without you.  This is what makes our music program so strong.

      Concert Attire Collection

      Need new concert attire for your rapidly growing student, or have found out that their current concert attire no longer fits?  We are putting the donation bins back out in front of the band room.  Please donate your outgrown concert attire (black shoes/pants/shirts) in the bins for some other student to use, or take for yourself something that fits.  Chances are your concert attire for this end of the year concerts won't fit by next November's concerts, so please consider donating your attire after next week's concerts for students next year.  Please have the clothes clean, and bag or tie together the shoes.

      Scholarships Available for Music Trips 

      Remember, the mission of FOMAHI is to support all music students with helping fund music and instrument purchase and repair, provide additional instruction, and help fund trips, plus more.  Music groups are not a group without all members participating.  We have scholarships ready and available to all who need it to help with trip costs, and do not want any student missing out due to financial constraints after all their hard work and dedication.  If your student needs financial help for a trip, please let your director know and funds can be provided.  Again, this is FOMAHI's mission.

      For those of you with students moving to Ballard High School in the fall, I'd like to welcome you in advance to BHS, and invite you to get to know the Ballard High School PTSA. For the upcoming 2018-2019 school year, the Ballard High School PTSA has several volunteer positions available, either for committee members or for smaller, well-defined and short-term volunteer opportunities. Whatever your experience, chances are we have an opportunity for you to contribute. As part of the Ballard High School PTSA, you can make a difference by helping to cultivate an excellent educational environment for all Ballard High School Students.

      We are a free program in Seattle Public Schools that prepares students for college, careers, and life. We provide this training through our regular school year courses and our summer program.       Seattle Cascades Ultimate Clinics

      Seattle Cascades is Seattle's pro ultimate team. We combine forces with our elite women's teams to coach our clinics. Clinics are for all: beginner to advanced, all genders. Cost is $30 for the clinic, or $40 includes a disc, shorts, or shirt (one item).

      • All abilities are welcome
      • We have cleats to share if needed
      • Allergy sensitive snacks are provided
      • Scholarship is given to all who need it. (even to $0)

      Babysitter Training

      Saturday, July 14, 2018, 12:30pm to 4:30pm

       

      Gain the knowledge and skills to be a safe, confident babysitter. Learn about infant and child care, age appropriate toys, safety and injury prevention and how to handle emergencies.  Find out what parents expect and practice hands-on skills. Includes in-depth coverage of First Aid, Infant/Child CPR, and how to be safe at home alone while sitting.

      Students receive a Child and Babysitting Safety handbook at the end of class.  Instructor Ken Norris, a 26-year veteran of the Seattle Fire Department, has taught CPR for 15 years.

      Register early! Class space is limited.  Ages 11 and up.  Location: Phinney Center Blue Building. 

      Cost: $40 PNA member, $50 Public
