    Reflections Art Contest

Students are invited to create works for the 2018-19 Reflections Art Contest. This year is the 50th year of the contest. The theme is "Heroes Around Me."

Reflections is a National PTA program that recognizes excellence in student art.  During its 50 year history, millions of students have participated. Students submit their work at school, with selected works advancing to the city, state and national competitions.  In the past few years, a number of Hamilton student works have advanced to the state and national levels, including last year's honorable mention in photography.

Reflections takes submissions in the fields of literature, visual arts, photography, music composition, dance choreography and film production. Students may submit work in more then one category (or even all of them) but each entry must be the work of an individual student (no group entries).

The deadline for all submissions will be Thursday, November 1. The works will be displayed and winners will be chosen the following week. Entry specifications will be available soon on the PTSA Reflections page.

Meet Ms. Huckabee the new House Administrator

    Hamilton PTSA

    ★NEW House Administrator Samantha Huckabee

    The Basics

Hello! My name is Samantha Huckabee! I’m a Seattle native and now live in Shoreline with my 10-year-old shih-tzu mix, Toby. I enjoy running and have completed over twenty half and two full marathons. I also travel to the east coast quite a bit to visit friends and family. I’ve been in education for 16 years and this will be my 9th year in Seattle. Previously, I taught special education at Eckstein and Jane Addams. This year, I’m moving out of the classroom and will be serving as Hamilton’s House Administrator and working primarily with the 7th grade.

    My Childhood

I was born in Seattle and lived Bellevue, Marysville, and Snohomish. I was very involved in music and drama throughout school. My family moved to State College, PA when I was a junior in high school which was a bit of a culture shock!

    My Education

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts and a minor in English from Penn State University. I served in AmeriCorps for two years where I worked with students with significant disabilities and taught them how to work in the school store in order to learn job skills for later employment. I knew I wanted to teach at that point, so I went to NYU for my Masters in Educational Theatre/Teaching English 7-12. I taught in the Bronx for two years before moving back to the Seattle area. I received my special education endorsement from the University of Washington and, most recently, my Administrative certificate from Seattle University.

    My Favorites

    Food: Tacos, Ravioli
    Movie: The Princess Bride
Book:Fool on the Hill by Matt Ruff
    Color: Blue
Drink: Diet Coke, Java Chip Frappuccino
    Season: Fall
Sports: College Football, baseball, women’s soccer

    Music: Pearl Jam, Coldplay

★NEW Please stay out of the bus lanes - Drop-off and Pick-up Directions

For the safety and benefit of all of our students, parents and guardians please refer to the Hamilton Traffic Flow Map. Otherwise traffic gridlock, unsafe conditions, and angry drivers results.

There are families who are dropping students off before and after school and get in the way of our buses. We have VERY narrow streets and our buses cannot get through if there are other vehicles there. The streets to the East and West of the school are SCHOOL BUS ONLY.  There should not be any student drop-offs/pick-ups happening on either side of the school.

Parents dropping off and picking up their students, please TRAVEL WEST ONLY on North 41st St. (the south side of Hamilton). Please refer to the Hamilton Traffic Flow Map

    Safety Update

Last Friday, September 14th, Seattle Fire Station #9 was here to conduct our first fire drill of the year. They inspected the building and monitored our drill, and were very impressed with our performance. Our staff and students quickly and efficiently evacuated the building, lined up, and took attendance on the Wallingford Playfield in record time. A big thank you goes out to our staff for their diligence in making sure the building was clear, getting students lined up, and taking attendance quickly, and to our students who lined up quickly and quietly.

At Hamilton, we will conduct at least one safety-related drill per month, including summer months when school is in session with students. This year we will be practicing drills related to three basic functional threat responses: shelter in place, lockdown, and evacuation. In addition, during the annual October Great Washington ShakeOut on October 18, 2018, Hamilton will participate with all Seattle schools in an earthquake and emergency communication and mapping drill.

If you have any questions about our safety drills, please contact Assistant Principal, Bethany Sjoberg
