“La Chispa” update:
Earlier this month, “La Chispa” students went to the Latino Leadership Workshop. Students had a great time learning new leadership skills, interacting with high school students from Shorewood High School, and hearing from UW student role models.
We continue to meet weekly on Tuesdays and are working on a video project for next year’s 6th grade orientation. Our next speaker is on Tuesday, March 3. “Part Mexican, 100% Latina: Navigating Cultural and Racial Identity” will be presented by Grace Uomoto, one of our school nurses at Hamilton. Grace will share her story of growing up with mixed ethnicity, living between two worlds, and how she chose to defy labels.
If you are interested in presenting about your career experience of being bicultural or bilingual, please contact Lilia Elena Goldsmith at 252-5843 or email@example.com.
