PTSA Spring Membership Meeting to discuss and vote on possible funding of staff for next school year [rescheduling Superintendent Nyland visit]
Tues., March 21 from 7-9pm in the Commons
Dr. Nyland asked to reschedule his visit with the Hamilton PTSA for a question and answer session with parents and will now not be part of our Spring Membership meeting. Once we have rescheduled his visit, we will publicize.
That being said, we still have very important business to cover at the Spring Meeting, and encourage all Hamilton parents and stakeholders to attend.
At hand is a request from Principal Blish and the Hamilton Building Leadership Team (BLT), who are busy working on the 2017-18 Hamilton budget. They are asking if the Hamilton PTSA could commit, this month, to partially funding key staff positions for next school year (2017-18). This funding need has arisen from both the opening of Robert Eagle Staff Middle School (less student at Hamilton equals less funding from the district), and the Seattle School’s work to close a budget deficit of $74 million.
The positions needing additional support are:
To have a nurse at Hamilton an extra day per week: $21k
Counselor for an extra day per week: $23k
Our psychologist for an extra day per week: $22k
Continued support for a tech helper 2 days per week: $12k
The PTSA Board will meet beforehand, on Wednesday, March 15 (open to the public), to receive an update on the school's latest funding outlook from Principal Blish, gauge if and how the PTSA can contribute, and decide what specific needs we will present to the Membership at the Spring meeting. A decision to fund these positions can not be made without a vote of the Membership, which will be taken up at the March 21 Membership Meeting.

We hope to see you there!
