Hawk Out of School Time (HOST) programs are afterschool classes that take place at Hamilton International Middle School. HOST takes place Monday through Thursday from 2:30 – 4:30 pm with the exception of early release days. Classes are offered in the areas of academic assistance, recreation, and enrichment. Academic classes will be offered free-of-charge, while all other classes will have a fee associated with them. Snack and transportation (to most areas) are included with HOST classes.
Students are instructed to meet in the Commons (lunchroom) each day by 2:30pm. There they will be greeted by their HOST class instructor, marked on the class attendance, and given snack. We will also go over HOST rules and expectations, which mirror those of the regular school day. Classes will then go to their meeting spaces throughout the building until they are dismissed at 4:30pm.

It is the YMCA’s commitment to provide meaningful afterschool programming at Hamilton International Middle School so that every student has an opportunity to grow, learn and thrive. Funding through the Families and Education Levy has allowed the Y to operate these programs at no cost to families for many years. However, because of decreased levy funding for Hamilton International Middle School this year, the Y and Hamilton are now offering afterschool programming to families that are fee-based, but are based on ability to pay. We want to be sure that we are serving your family and all of our students. There are NO refunds for HOST classes. Scholarships are available to families in need.
During online registration you will be asked if your student needs a Metro bus token or an Activity Bus. Please be sure to input “yes” if your student will require one of these methods of transportation. HOST will have two activity buses this year that serve areas northeast and northwest of HIMS. Only families that mark “yes” to activity bus will have their student’s name sent to be assigned to an activity bus route. Activity buses are scheduled to depart HIMS at 4:45 pm.
Buses are only provided for students enrolled & participating in an authorized school program. Students are NOT allowed to remain after school or use district transportation if they engage in an activity outside of a school-sponsored program or stay without parent permission. Please note it is your child’s responsibility to get on the activity bus by 4:40 pm. The YMCA is not responsible for your child getting home if he or she is not on the activity bus when it leaves the school or other departure spot communicated to your child. NOTE: Transportation needs 10 working days to assign an after-school bus route. A student’s regular school bus IS NOT the same bus during after-school activities.
