Please Help Keep our Before and After School Traffic Flowing!

Parents/guardians dropping off and picking up their students should travel west only on 41st St. (the south side of HIMS) so that students can safely get in or out of their car on the school side of the street. Otherwise traffic gridlock and unsafe conditions for our students and neighbors result. Please refer to the map below as well as the school rule for dropoff and pickup.

NEW WANTED: Reflections Art Contest Chair

We're looking for a volunteer to organize this fall’s PTSA-sponsored Reflections Art Contest.  The state PTA offers a good deal of support for this program, and you will be providing our students a great opportunity to share their talents in photography, music, dance, visual arts, and more! If you're interested in this position—and we happily welcome co-chairs—please contact PTSA President, Lisa Rivera Smith at lisarsmith@live.com.

NEW
PTSA Events Committee Forming

Are you the life of the party? No, not the funny guy or gal who yucks it up and dances til dawn. We mean the real life of the party—the one who has the vision, thinks of the details, and makes things happen. If that sounds like you, then please join us on the PTSA Events Committee.

Hamilton events don’t plan themselves, and we want to start the year right by brainstorming ideas and looking ahead to what kinds of fun and learning we can bring to our school and community. We're talking social, parent education, and community service type events. Bring your ideas and your connections!

For more information, please contact PTSA President Lisa Rivera Smith at lisarsmith@live.com.  Meeting dates and times will be scheduled based on committee members’ availability.

Vice Principal’s Letter

Dear Hamilton Families,

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Scott Reisinger and I am the new assistant principal at Hamilton. I served last year as assistant principal at Chief Sealth International High School and, before that, as an administrator in central Indiana, which is where I grew up. As we get rolling into a new school year, I am very excited by the opportunity to serve the students and staff at Hamilton and to be part of such an awesome community.

As with any start to the school year, we have experienced a few bumps that we can learn from going forward. I know many of you have had concerns about the bus routes. One of my responsibilities here at Hamilton is to oversee transportation and ensure that all students are safe coming to and going home from school. I have been working with transportation to find a solution to our overcrowding problem. Transportation has agreed to add a new bus, route #493, that will immediately assist in transporting students that were assigned to #504. Those families who are affected have already received a call confirming the change. Other issues with buses running late are being worked on by us and at the district level.

Another issue we are working through is the shortage of lockers. We have many students sharing lockers. I have been in contact with the district to see if we can hang some used lockers on some of the empty walls and we are improvising with some of our current furniture to ensure that every student has enough space to store their belongings safely throughout the day.

I look forward to meeting each of you as we move further into the school year. If I can be of assistance moving forward, please do not hesitate to contact me at (206) 252-5816.

Go Hawks!

Scott Reisinger

Assistant Principal
