    Community Update: Strong Start
    Posted on 09/04/2020

I hope this message finds you safe and well.  Thank you for your continued patience as we navigate the challenges of launching a school year remotely.  Last Thursday, we virtually welcomed back our entire staff and it was wonderful to “see” everyone again.  We spent the day reconnecting and focusing on our continued commitment to racial equity, school climate, and social emotional learning, alignment, and high-quality professional development and instruction. We know that students and families would like the online learning experience to be more predictable and streamlined.  Please know that we are ready to make those improvements to our remote learning model.

I recognize our school community has been anxiously waiting for more information about what the school year will look like and the Hamilton staff has been in the same position.  Now that the Seattle Education Association and Seattle Public School have reached an agreement, we are sharing the following details with you:

    Strong Start Week

The Strong Start Week beings on Friday, September 4. The rest of the Strong Start Week runs from Tuesday, September 8 through Friday, September 11. (There will be no school on September 7 because of Labor Day.) During this time, our number one focus is making sure that students and families have everything they need. Our staff will focus on the social emotional well- being of our students, making connections, and building relationships. Students will be given the opportunity to practice checking in with Teams and Schoology. We will also be focused on connecting with all our families and making sure technology and resources are in place for a successful start to the academic school year on Monday, September 14. Our daily schedule was submitted for review and I will be sharing our schedule that starts on the 9/14 by the end of the week.

Hawk Hub Representatives: Every family will be contacted by a member of HIMS staff at some point during the 9/8-9/10 Strong Start Days. This staff member is the family’s Hawk Hub Representative. More information to come about your Hawk Hub Representative and their role in communicating with families.

    Supplies and Materials Distribution

We also want to be sure students and families are equipped with essential supplies and our First Day School forms.  The week of September 8th, we will provide families with needed supplies and required forms to be filled out and returned.  Please look for more detailed information including pick up dates and times to come.

As in past years, the First Day School Packet is available online here.

Our number one priority is that our students have the resources and support they need before we start the school year.  We continue recognize that the pandemic has created lots of new financial challenges for families.  If your family is having trouble getting the school supplies you need, or if your family is in need of help with utilities or food or paying for other basic needs, please call 206-252-5812 and leave your name, child’s name, grade-level, and the best way for us to contact you, and we will do our best to connect you with resources.   Also, if an online survey is more convenient, please feel free to click on and respond to the following:  NEEDS SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES: 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR
