What is Hamilton doing during the school closure to provide continuous learning?

Hamilton educators are excited to provide instruction and assignments to continue the learning for all students during the school closure. Working with the Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and Seattle Public Schools guidance we will be providing two options for continuous learning:

    • Students who have online access will get updates and instruction through Schoology.
    • Hamilton will be printing and mailing packets for families that need it.

What will continuous learning look like at Hamilton?

    • Engagement, connection, and social emotional wellbeing for our students is of the highest importance.
    • Teachers will connect with students in posts, share about self and what they have been up to and provide opportunities for students to connect with each other in the live office hours and in discussion chats.
    • Students can share their work samples and learning.
    • Instruction and assignments will be standards-based and will focus on important learning in the discipline while balancing the workload and expectations for students.
    • Students should expect ~60-80 minutes of work per week per subject. Additional enrichment and supplemental activities can be suggested for students as needed.
    • Students may experience learning in 2 ways: asynchronous or online live learning. Many of the learning opportunities at Hamilton will be asynchronous.

o Asynchronous learning will occur when students work on their own schedule on the lessons and assignments set by teachers. This offers convenience and flexibility for students and families. It allows students to work at their own pace, accessing pre-recorded videos, activities, and assignments. Examples could be Schoology assignments, printed packets from teachers, and reading.
o Online Live Learning occurs when students are working at home, accessing live-stream class lessons or meetings through Microsoft Teams, office hours through Microsoft Teams, Schoology discussions, or e-mail. Students learn at the same time in a virtual class or question session with their teacher and peers. This method engages all students at a specific date and time as organized by the school and individual teachers.

    Posts/ Communication:

    • Teachers have been encouraged to post new work for the week every Monday to Schoology. Hamilton teachers will also use other methods (e.g., phone, e-mail, mailing printed packets) to ensure all students have access to developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive instruction and/or materials.
    • Work will be posted to the Schoology Platform. Teams is the district accepted platform to be used for office hours/continuous learning.

    Hamilton Continuous Learning Schedule:

    • Please view our Bell Times page for the Continuous Learning Schedule for your students' grade. Downloadable PDF's are also available via the At Home Learning page.
    • Two time slots per content area were provided to allow for higher probability of access for students.
    • Teachers will communicate with students details about their office hours schedule.
