    School Update 04.09.21
    Posted on 04/09/2021

    Dear Hamilton Community,

We have arrived at Spring Break! I hope you find some time over the break to relax and spend some time with family and friends. Below you will find important updates, documents, and information concerning our return to school on Monday, April 19. We will have a team working throughout Spring Break to continue to prepare for students returning to school. We are here in service of our students, staff, and community and our goal is to provide a welcoming and exciting return to school.

    Returning In Person Information:

If your student/s are returning in person on April 19th it is critical that you read the family welcome back letter and fill out the informed consent form. Below you will find the links to these important documents. This information can also be found on the Hamilton International Middle School website.  These forms can be turned into: hamilton1stdayforms@seattleschools.org

Helpful Tips for Monday, April 19:

    • Bring/wear a mask
    • Make sure your laptop is fully charged before coming to school! Bring your charger just in case.
    • Bring headphones
    • Bring a water bottle – quick sips of water are ok – please make extra sure to be 6’ away from everyone before removing mask then put mask back on.
    • Bring pencil/pen/etc. Students will not be sharing supplies.  Students will not be using lockers and are permitted to keep a backpack with them throughout the day.
    • Snacks – If student needs a snack break, they can ask for a one and their teacher will direct them where to go.
    • Bring a sweatshirt or jacket! Windows and doors will be open and our HVAC system is circulating air flow frequently. It can be a little breezy in the rooms.

    Cohorts:

We are working to finish dividing the cohorts the next few days, so we can take into account family requests due to hardships and be as intentional as possible. THESE ASSIGNMENTS ARE NOT FINAL, as we need to balance sections and will need to move students before they are finalized. We will be notifying families next week about student cohort assignments.

    In-Person vs Remote Preferences:

We can change the request you entered on your survey at the building level until Friday, 4/16. If you want to change your entry or if you did not submit your preference, please contact Hamilton's Registrar, Elizabeth Peila, at elpeila@seattleschools.org.

    Transportation Time Concerns:

We heard the concerns raised by many families about the short transition time between the synchronous instruction in the morning and the in-person transition to school and created a 15 minute period at the beginning of the first period of each day for teachers to check in with students and students to complete work. Instruction and activities will begin after this time period to allow students an extra buffer.

Our administrative team along with some members of our office staff, safety committee, and custodians will be working over spring break on the logistics for returning to school and we will be sending more updates and information to families throughout next week. Please pay close attention to the emails you receive from Hamilton as we move forward.

    Have a wonderful Spring Break!

    Go Hawks!
