     Letter from the Principal

    Hamilton PTSA

    Principal Dorian Manza

    Dear Hamilton Families,

We are excited to announce that we are starting a Student Equity and Climate Team at Hamilton International Middle School!

    The team will:

    • Collaborate with school administrators and counselors to foster a safe and healthy climate
    • Promote an inclusive culture that engages and draws on the assets of students, families, staff and community members
    • Encourage conversations about equity and social justice

The team will consist of 1-2 representatives from each advisory as well as students from other affinity groups. To launch this work, the representatives will come together for multiple sessions to identify concerns and brainstorm solutions for our school.  The Student Equity and Climate Team meetings will start next week and continue through the end of the year. The continuing commitment would be three additional meeting this year.  The Student Equity and Climate team will continue next school year, and team members will meet every other week during advisory.  I am looking forward to the outcome of this work.

Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff. Have a warm, safe, and wonderful Memorial Day weekend.

    Go Hawks!

The New Normal: Parents, Teens, Screens, and Sleep in the United States

It's no secret that our phones keep us captivated. Parents don't need research to tell them that smartphones and other mobile devices are both an essential tool and a frequent distraction. But just how far does that distraction extend into families' daily lives?

New research from Common Sense shows that those glowing screens are keeping many of us—and our kids—from getting a good night's sleep. In this timely follow-up to our 2016 report on device distraction, parents and teens reveal how device use affects their routines, relationships, and sleep habits—from where they keep phones at night to how often digital notifications wake them up (and why).

Find out what the data shows and learn more about what you can do to have a healthier relationship with your devices—and your kids.
