The New Normal: Parents, Teens, Screens, and Sleep in the United States

It's no secret that our phones keep us captivated. Parents don't need research to tell them that smartphones and other mobile devices are both an essential tool and a frequent distraction. But just how far does that distraction extend into families' daily lives?

New research from Common Sense shows that those glowing screens are keeping many of us—and our kids—from getting a good night's sleep. In this timely follow-up to our 2016 report on device distraction, parents and teens reveal how device use affects their routines, relationships, and sleep habits—from where they keep phones at night to how often digital notifications wake them up (and why).

Find out what the data shows and learn more about what you can do to have a healthier relationship with your devices—and your kids.

One More FOMAHI Board Member Needed for 2019-2020

We are almost there.  Five people already volunteered for FOMAHI positions next year, but one remains:  Orchestra Co-President.  Despite the lofty title, the role is pretty straight forward, and doesn’t take a lot of time.

      • Co-president Orchestra
        • Supports and collaborates with the Director, identifying specific needs of the program
        • Runs monthly FOMAHI meetings, together with other co-presidents
        • Time commitment variable, but averaging 3-4 hours/month

If interested, please email FOMAHIhelp@gmail.com, or Christina Holden at tomchristinaholden@comcast.net, for more information.  We can put you in touch with the current Co-Presidents so you can learn the ropes directly.
