    School Update 10.02.2020
    Posted on 10/02/2020

    Dear Hamilton Community,

We truly appreciate the hard work and dedication of our students and staff while doing something we have never done before; launch the school year in a remote setting. Our staff continues to put in countless hours to provide high quality teaching and learning while enhancing our remote learning platform. It’s hard to believe we are already in the month of October, bringing us into the fall season with holidays right around the corner. We appreciate your patience and support as we continue this journey together.

Below you will find important information, reminders, and possible actions needed by you on the following:

    • Filipinx American History Month
    • Distribution Make-Up Days
    • Principal Q and A
    • Curriculum Night
    • First Day Packet Reminder
    • Advanced Learning Deadlines
    • Student Verification Deadline

October is Filipinx American History Month:

MABUHAY (Hello/Long Live), Hawks! October is Filipinx American History Month (#FAHM2020), and especially in this month of October, we will be highlighting Filipinx history and culture through a weekly FAHM PowerPoint Presentation. Learn more about this month through the Filipinx American National Historical Society (FANHS) and our theme: “The History of Filipinx American Activism” HERE. Each week, we will highlight key historical figures, facts, FAHM student and staff narratives, challenge one another (staff/students and families) to participate in FAHM activities (prize drawing at the end of the month!), and give shout-outs to the classes who cover FAHM (beyond our weekly FAHM presentation) and HOW. i.e. Reading FAHM poetry, articles, watching videos, etc. We look forward to celebrating this month!

    Distribution Make-Up Days:

If you missed any of our distribution days this week, we will be providing the following pick-up times next week:

    • Tuesday, October 6 from 11am to 1 pm.
    • Thursday, October 8 from 4pm to 6pm.

These pick-up times are only for families who missed the prior distribution days. We are not handing out any new materials on these days.

    Principal Q and A:

In partnership with the PTSA, the Hamilton administrative team will be hosting another Principal Q and A in two weeks. A couple of logistics still need to get worked out, but tentatively put Thursday, October 15 at 6:30 pm on your calendar for a Q and A session like the one we held in September. It’s an opportunity for us to connect, for me to answer questions you might have, and to listen to your feedback. More details will be coming soon.

    Curriculum Night:

We will be presenting our Curriculum night in a different way this year. During the week of October 12, our teachers will be posting a presentation video for each class period including the following information:

    • Information about each of your student’s teachers
    • Curriculum overview
    • Remote learning expectations
    • Assignments and grading
    • Information on how to best contact the teacher for support

Parents will have the opportunity to reach out to each of their student’s teachers individually via email for questions, clarifications or inquiries following our Curriculum Night. We will be providing more specific details on the posting of the videos and accessing the videos by the end of next week. We believe that this online format is the most equitable way to ensure that all families have access to the Curriculum Night information presented by our teachers.

    First Day Packet Reminder:

This is a friendly reminder that the deadline to return forms is fast approaching. If you have not already done so, please provide the FERPA and Emergency Release forms by October 9th.
