School Leader Update: Eric Marshall

Dear Hamilton families and staff,

I am pleased to announce Dr. Eric Marshall has been selected as the interim principal of Hamilton Middle School for the 2023-24 school year.

Principal Marshall will replace Principal Dorian Manza who is leaving Seattle Public Schools to pursue another professional opportunity.

Principal Marshall has been in education for more than 30 years. He began his professional service as a special education teacher and has served as an assistant principal and principal in elementary, K-8, middle, and high schools.

He values the interconnectivity of instruction, academics, and social emotional support for students. Attention to the whole student and teaching and learning strategies are key to his decision-making and guiding philosophy.

Principal Marshall was raised in a family of educators where it was emphasized that the best way to effect positive change is through the pursuit of knowledge. He holds a doctorate degree in educational and organizational learning and leadership from Seattle University. He earned an educational specialist degree in educational leadership and his master’s degree in the emotionally handicapped from Nova Southeastern University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Hampton University.

SPS will begin the search for a permanent Hamilton principal in spring 2024. At that time, SPS will share next steps with the community.

I want to thank Principal Manza for his leadership and service to Hamilton Middle School. Principal Marshall began serving as interim principal on Aug. 7.

Please join me in welcoming Principal Marshall to Hamilton!

Sincerely,

Dr. Brent Jones
Superintendent
